Factory Automation Systems is seeking a degreed engineer with at least (8) years of experience in mechanical design for industrial robot systems.

We are seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer with experience in robot cell design, including reach studies, layouts, tooling and fixture design and safety systems. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will work as part of a project team that is responsible for designing, staging, programming and commissioning turnkey robot cells. We are looking for a capable, creative and self-motivated professional who wants a career working in a constantly changing variety of applications, industries and engineering challenges.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • 8+ years of experience with industrial robotic applications
  • Ability to learn quickly to remain current in this constantly evolving field


The Mechanical Design Engineer position involves:

  • Understanding and implementing the technical requirements and scope of work for each project
  • Interacting with the project manager, project engineers, the fabrication shop and the customer in a professional, productive and effective manner
  • Adhering to project schedules and budgets while working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Designing robot cells, end-of-arm tooling and custom equipment within the cell
  • Selecting and specifying robots and other cell equipment
  • Generating detail and assembly drawings of custom equipment including end-of-arm tools
  • Testing and troubleshooting equipment,
  • Supporting the fabrication and installation team


Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Proficiency with 3-D modeling software - SolidWorks preferred
  • Knowledge of ANSI/ASME drafting standards; ability to read, create and check drawings
  • Knowledge of the design of mechanisms involving bearings, pneumatic systems and electric motors, including experience with servos, sensors, materials, finishes and structural design
  • Knowledge of robotic cell design including reach analysis, cycle time analysis and safety standards
  • Knowledge of fabrication and machining processes used to make custom components
  • Knowledge of automated industrial processes
