I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Manager, cleans, prepares, assembles, sterilizes, and distributes surgical instruments and specific medical equipment according to established procedures and techniques.
Inventories and restocks medical supplies on various patient care units.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Essential: standing, walking, kneeling, twisting body, finger dexterity, seeing ,hearing, speaking, stooping/bending, lifting usual weight of 15 pounds up to maximum of 50 pounds; pushing/pulling maximum weight of 50 pounds of force; carrying maximum weight of 50 pounds, gripping of an object for prolonged periods.
Occasional: sitting, kneeling, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, squatting, reaching at and below shoulder level.
Operates all sterilizers, computers, printers, all washers, copier, fax, steam and air gun.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Subjected to heat while wearing protective uniform and working in decontaminator.
Subjected to noise/vibration from sterilizers and equipment.
Works with operating equipment.
Exposure to the risk of blood borne diseases, infectious and disease-bearing specimens; infectious and contagious diseases; hazards of handling diseased organs and tissue; odorous chemicals and gases; low level radiation; and bio- hazardous substances.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
High school diploma or equivalent education.
Current Registered Central Supply Technician certification highly preferred
One (1) year experience in an acute care or outpatient setting.
Experience to demonstrate:
o Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
o Familiarity with medical supplies and instrumentation in an acute care setting preferred.
o Knowledge of automated systems preferred.
