Position Overview:
This position participates as an integral member of the patient care team by performing selected duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Primary duties include; preparing the L&D operating/delivery rooms, creating and maintaining sterile fields, scrubbing for surgical procedures, assist physicians by handing and receiving instruments and supplies, removes linen, drapes, and equipment after delivery/operation; prepares delivery/operating room for the next delivery/operation, assists nurses or physicians with procedures, maintains supplies, instruments, and equipment for all assigned nursing departments. This position provides support to the RNs on the unit by accomplishing assigned tasks which do not require assessment, teaching, or management by licensed personnel. Also responsible for entering charges and ordering supplies for assigned departments.
This position may also provide direct patient care. Primary activities include; assisting with patient hygiene, safety, dietary support and vital signs. This position may perform other nursing assistant duties as assigned by a RN.
Patient populations served are female adults, male & female adolescents, children, infants and newborns. Provides care based on the age-related needs of the patient in consideration of their developmental/psychological needs, environmental safety, communication style, and level of understanding.
Job Description:
EDUCATION
HS Diploma or equivalent education/experience
Some College courses in health sciences - desired
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE
BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required
CST-Certified Surgical Technologist preferred
CNA-Certified Nurse Assistant preferred
EXPERIENCE
One year experience as a certified nursing assistant, or scrub tech desired.
Prior experience in an acute care setting.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Medical terminology
Aseptic technique
Surgical scrub procedures, use of sterile technique, instruments, and set-up procedures for the delivery/OR room.
Knowledge of the anesthesia cart and equipment.
Proper technique for moving and lifting patients.
Must be organized, and accurate.
Must be able to understand and follow directions well.
Ability to anticipate physicians needs during procedures.
Ability to read, speak, write clearly and legibly.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic computations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, family and staff.
Ability to establish priorities and follow through on assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
Ability to work well as a team member and contribute positively towards the goals of the team and the organization.
Basic computer skills utilizing windows based programs.
Ability to work calmly during emergency situations.
License/Certifications:
BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association, CNA-Certified Nurse Assistant - California Department of Public Health, CST-Certified Surgical Technologist - The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
